Peak flexion stresses in the tapered rod transitions were reduced by 34% as compared to those at the stepped transition (Middle).
Contact pressures were drastically reduced with the 5.25-5.0-4.75mm gradually tapered rod (Top) as compared to that of the 6.35mm (1/4”) constant diameter rod (Bottom). At the midpoint, contact pressures were reduced by as much as 90%.
